Painters for the western suburbs
What a Naperville painting job looks like when the prep is done first
Most calls start the same way: builder flat paint has scuffed through, the oak trim has gone orange, or the south wall is chalking and the trim is peeling at the joints. That is normal for a Naperville house from the 1980s or 1990s, and it is the work Mario's Painting & Decorating does every week.
Interiors run year round and exteriors from spring through October, when the suburbs give us the dry, above-50 degree days a coating needs to cure. In between we spray cabinets, hang and strip wallpaper, repair plaster in the older houses near downtown, and take the commercial and turnover jobs that happen after hours.
The number rings through 24 hours a day, and the estimate is a walkthrough of the actual rooms or elevations, not a square-foot guess over the phone. If you want to read up first, our painting guides cover costs, seasons and colors for Naperville homes.

The kind of work that comes out of our vans
Interior colors are usually Sherwin-Williams or Benjamin Moore lines; decks get Cabot or Sikkens depending on the wood.

Process, plainly
What we actually do on the job, room by room and wall by wall
Interior. Walls and ceilings are patched, sanded and spot-primed before any color goes on. Trim gets a bonding primer and two coats of enamel, sprayed where the room can be masked and brushed where it cannot. Furniture is moved to the center and covered; floors are papered, not just dropped.
Exterior. The house is washed, scraped to sound paint, sanded at every transition and primed bare. Rotted trim is replaced rather than filled. Caulk goes in every joint that moves. Two coats of a 100 percent acrylic finish, and we come back for the touch-up walk once it has cured.
Cabinets and decorating. Doors and drawers are sprayed off site; boxes are painted in place. Wallpaper goes on sized, skimmed walls with the seams planned before the first drop.

Local conditions
Why painting in Naperville is its own job
Naperville is mostly two-story houses built between 1980 and 2000 on quarter-acre lots, which means cedar or aluminum siding on the older ones, vinyl and fiber cement on the newer, and honey oak trim and cabinets almost everywhere inside. The interior work we do most is turning that trim and those cabinets white or off-white, and repainting builder flat with a washable finish.
Closer to downtown and the historic district the houses run from the 1870s to the 1960s, so we are dealing with plaster, old-growth wood trim and paint layers that predate 1978, and on the exterior with review rules for color and materials on listed properties. South of 75th Street and on the Will County side the subdivisions are newer but the decks and fences are due for stain every few years. The service area page shows how far we go.
1980s and 1990s subdivisions
Oak trim, builder flat, cedar and aluminum siding that has been repainted two or three times. Adhesion testing before we quote.
Historic district and pre-1978 homes
Plaster, old trim, lead-era paint layers and exterior review rules. Slower prep, better results.
Freeze-thaw winters
Around a hundred nights below freezing a year. Caulk, primer and a flexible finish matter here.

From the first call
How a job runs, in seven steps
You call, we answer
The line is answered around the clock. Tell us the rooms or the elevations, and we book a walkthrough, at a time that suits you.
Walkthrough and written estimate
We look at the surfaces, test adhesion where a repaint is going over old coats, and note what needs repair. The estimate lists prep, products and coats, not a single number.
Color and product plan
We bring fan decks and large samples, help you pick a sheen that suits the room, and specify the primer and finish for each surface.
Protection and prep
Floors papered, furniture covered, fixtures masked. Patching, sanding, caulking and priming happen before any finish coat.
Two finish coats
Cut lines by hand, rolled or sprayed depending on the surface, with dry time between coats that the product actually calls for.
Walkthrough and touch-up
You walk every room or elevation with the lead painter. Anything you point at gets fixed before we call it done.
Clean-up and aftercare
Masking off, dust wiped, leftover labeled paint left with you for touch-ups, and a note on when the finish is fully cured.

Questions Naperville homeowners ask before they book
Interior work is booked year round, so there is no seasonal wait. Call and we will give you a real start date at the walkthrough rather than a guess.
Roughly April through October. Most exterior coatings need surface temperatures above 50 degrees and a dry window of a day or two, so we stop booking exteriors once November's cold sets in and start again in spring.
Yes, and it is the most common interior request we get in Naperville. Oak needs the grain filled or accepted, a bonding primer and a hard enamel, sprayed where possible. We will show you a sample door before committing to the whole kitchen.
Chicago-area pros typically charge $2.50 to $5 per square foot of wall, or roughly $414 to $1,658 per room depending on size, ceiling height and prep. Those are market planning ranges from published cost guides, not our quote; your written estimate comes from the walkthrough.
All of it. Wallpaper installation and removal, plaster and drywall repair, popcorn ceiling removal and power washing each have their own page and can be booked on their own or as prep for a paint job.
Yes. Offices, retail, restaurants, HOA common areas and apartment turnovers, scheduled around business hours or move-out dates. Evening and weekend work is normal for those jobs.
Mostly Sherwin-Williams and Benjamin Moore for interiors and exteriors, Cabot and Sikkens for decks and fences, and Zinsser or Kilz primers where stain-blocking is needed. If you already have a color or product in mind we will work with it.
We tell you straight away. When the schedule is full or your start date cannot be met, your call may be passed to another local painting contractor we trust so you are not left waiting. Our terms explain how call forwarding works.
