Joliet, the Will County seat, had 150,490 residents in 2020. Its Upper Bluff Historic District alone has 616 buildings, mostly frame houses with clapboard siding built between 1850 and 1930 on Joliet limestone foundations, and the city set up a local historic district there in 1997.
On those houses the painting is the short part of the job. Clapboard, porch columns and deep window trim carry many layers of old paint, so the work is scraping to a sound edge, repairing soft wood, priming bare spots and doing all of it lead-safe. On the far west side, near Plainfield, the houses are much newer and the work looks like the rest of our area.
Joliet limestone foundations and brick need different care from the wood above them. We keep paint off stone and brick that should stay natural, clean and protect it during exterior work, and seal the joint where wood trim meets masonry so water cannot run behind it. On porches, we check the floor and steps along with the trim.
