Will County had 696,355 residents in 2020, the fourth-most populous county in Illinois, and much of that growth came in the 1990s and 2000s. Plainfield went from a few thousand people to more than forty thousand, and Bolingbrook grew into the county's second-largest town. Houses from those years are now at the age where the builder paint, the oak trim and the first exterior coats all wear out at once.
Joliet, the county seat, is a different job. Its historic neighborhoods are full of frame houses with clapboard siding, deep trim and porches, where scraping, priming and lead-safe prep take as long as the painting itself.
